NEWS

news58
NEWS, is a six-member Japanese musical group consisting of Koyama Keiichiro, Nishikido Ryo, Yamashita Tomohisa, Masuda Takahisa, Kato Shigeaki and Tegoshi Yuya. The group’s name is an acronym based on the cardinal directions (North, East, West, South) and the members locations. Formed in 2003 by Johnny Kitagawa as a nine member group under the label Johnny’s Entertainment, NEWS released a promotional single NEWS Nippon, which was used for the World Cup of Volleyball Championships. In 2004, MoriuchiTakahiro left the group and the remaining eight members released their debut single, Kibou Yell, which debuted atop the Oricon charts.
In 2006, the group released their fifth consecutive number-one single, Sayaendou/Hadashi no Cinderella Boy/Barefoot Cinderella Boy, as the current six-member group due to the controversy surrounding then-members Uchi Hiroki and Kusano Hironori. After a brief hiatus, they released their seventh number-one single, Hoshi wo Mezashite. In 2008, they released their tenth single, Happy Birthday, which made NEWS the second Japanese group after label-mates KinKi Kids to have ten consecutive number-one singles since their debut.

History

2003-2006: Debut and departure of members
Formed in September 2003, NEWS released a promotional single, “NEWS Nippon”, which was used as the theme song for the World Cup of Volleyball Championships. Before holding their first concert, NEWSnow Concert: NEWS’ Concert, Moriuchi Takahiro left the group. NEWS later released their debut single, “Kibou Yell”, which topped the Oricon chart. Their next two singles, “Akaku Moyuru Taiyou” (2004) and Cherish (2005), both debuted atop the charts, as did NEWS’ first album, Touch, which sold 164,016 copies in its first week.
In July 2005, Uchi Hiroki was scrutinized for underage drinking and was suspended indefinitely from both NEWS and Kanjani8, another group he was a part of. Despite having lost a member, NEWS released their fourth single, “Teppen”, which like its predecessors debut at number-one. In January 2006, NEWS was reduced to six members when Kusano Hironori was suspended indefinitely for the same charge as Uchi. NEWS released their fifth single, “Sayaendou/Hadashi no Cinderella Boy” (March 2006), which was their fifth consecutive number-one single. On May 1, 2006, after NEWS finished their “NEWS Spring Tour”, the group went on hiatus.

2007-2008: NEWS’ comeback
On December 30, 2006, it was announced that NEWS would make their return at Johnny’s Concert Countdown 2006-2007 as a six-member group, since Uchi Hiroki and Kusano Hironori had been demoted to trainees. To mark their return, NEWS embarked on a tour and released their sixth single “Hoshi wo Mezashite”. “Hoshi wo Mezashite” became their sixth number-one single, which went on to be used as the theme song for the Japanese version of Happy Feet.
On November 7, NEWS simultaneously released their seventh single, “Weeeek” and their second album, Pacific. Both releases debut atop of their respective charts with “Weeeek” selling 263,000 copies in its first week and Pacific selling 196,000 copies in their first week. This marked the tenth in Oricon history that an artist had both their single and album debut atop the charts simultaneously. To further support their album, NEWS went on a nationwide tour, NEWS Concert Tour Pacific 2007-2008, from December 15, 2007 to January 27, 2008. Because tickets were in such high demand, two more dates were added to the concert, which resulted in NEWS performing at the Tokyo Dome for the first time.
In February 2008 NEWS released their eighth number-one single, “Taiyou no Namida”, which was used as the theme song for the movie Kurosagi, starring Yamashita Tomohisa Yamashita. NEWS released two more number-one singles, “Summer Time” (May 2008) and “Happy Birthday” (October 2008), before releasing their third studio album Color (November 2008). The release of “Happy Birthday” made NEWS the second group, after the KinKi Kids, to have ten consecutive number-one singles since their debut. Color debuted at the number-one position on the charts, giving NEWS their third consecutive album. NEWS released their new single, “Koi no ABO” on April 29, 2009. It became their 11th number-one single. Their 12th single titled “Sakura Girl” will be released on March 31, 2010

During his junior days, Masuda backdanced for many of his seniors in the agency, such as KAT-TUN, and participated in many Johnny’s junior photoshots. In 2001, he was cast as a middle school student in the 6th season of the highly popular Japanese drama 3-nen B-gumi Kinpachi Sensei. Then, in 2003, he landed the starring role in the drama special Musashi. He also performed with the junior group Kis-My-Ft as the ‘M’ after Matsumoto Kohei’s departure.
In late 2003, Masuda became a member of the J-pop group News to promote the Women’s World Cup of Volleyball Championships. When News went on hiatus in 2006, he and fellow NEWS member, Tegoshi Yuya, formed the singing group Tegomass. The duo successfully released their single Miso Soup in both Sweden and Japan. Masuda was allowed to farther his acting experience in 2006 by landing various supporting roles in many Japanese dramas.
In late 2008, Masuda and the promoters of TU→YU formed a singing group to release the song Soba Ni Iru Yo, which was featured in the product’s commercials and released through the Japanese mobile phone network.
Masuda landed a role in the drama Rescue, which starts airing in January 2009. He is currently active in the group News as well as the subgroup Tegomass.
Masuda is known to be indecisive and have a unique fashion sense. His love for gyoza (dumplings) is well known within NEWS members. He is arguably the best dancer in NEWS, having taught band member Tegoshi Yuya how to dance when NEWS was suspended, and taught the other members dance steps to NEWS’ songs after the one year suspension. Masuda is also well known for his smile.
Masuda is currently acting in a stage play, Ame no Hi no Mori no Naka (Inside a Rainy Day’s Forest), his first leading role in a stage play.

He participated in various Johnny’s Junior activities for eleven months before becoming a member of NEWS in 2003. Before NEWS, he was almost completely unknown to the public. Tegoshi expressed in an interview that his most admired senpai is the leader of NEWS, Yamashita Tomohisa; even now, Tegoshi claims that Yamashita Tomohisa remains his greatest idol and rival.
Tegoshi appeared with his band members on Johnny’s related television shows, such as the Shounen Club and Ya-Ya-yah, soon after he entered the entertainment business. Tegoshi quickly gained popularity with his singing and is considered by many fans to be NEWS’ best singer. In 2005, Tegoshi landed the lead role in the movie Shisso, becoming the first member to star in a movie. Shisso aka Dead Run (International title) premiered in North America at the 2005 New Montreal Film Festival. He gained more acting roles in various Japanese dramas and continued his activities as a member of NEWS. He also hosted his own radio show, called “Tegoshi Yuya’s What a Wonderful Music” from April 2005 to March 2006.
During NEWS’s hiatus in 2006, he and bandmate Takahisa Masuda formed the duo Tegomass. They released the single “Miso Soup”, recorded entirely in English, in Sweden that reached #12 on the Swedish charts. In December of 2006, they released the Japanese version of “Miso Soup” in Japan, which reached #1 on the Oricon charts. Even after NEWS’ reformation at the end of 2006, Tegomass continued to have activities. In the spring of 2007, Tegomass released the single Kiss ~Kaerimichi no Love Song~ , which was the theme song for the anime Lovely Complex and debuted at #2 on the Oricon charts. Both “Miso Soup” and Kiss ~Kaerimichi no Love Song~ went on to place #58 and #46 respectively on Oricon’s Top 100 singles of 2007. Tegomass also represented the Japanese High School Volleyball Tournament with the song called “Marui Chikara”.
Tegoshi Yuya debuted in 2007 as a seiyuu for the Japanese release of the American animated film Happy Feet as the voice of Mumble. In July of 2007, Tegoshi was given the opportunity to perform a one-man-show called Tegoraji. Then he starred in Fuji TV’s drama special called Shabake, as Ichitaro, based on the novel of the same name written by Hatakenaka Megumi.
In June 2008, Tegomass released their third single Ai Ai Gasa , the ending theme song for the anime series Neo Angelique Abyss. Ai Ai Gasa debuted at #1 on the Oricon charts, and placed #64 on the Oricon Top 100 Singles of 2008. Tegoshi also reprised his role as Ichitaro, for the sequel of Shabake called Shabake: Uso Uso. At the end of 2008, director Hans Canosa cast Tegoshi as Mirai for the movie Dareka ga Watashi ni Kiss wo Shita, based on the novel Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin. This movie is slated to premiere March 27, 2010 in Japan.
During the summer of 2009, Tegoshi focused most of his energy on Tegomass activities. The duo released their single “Tanabata Matsuri” concurrently in Japan and Sweden on July 7 and released their first album the following week in Japan. They also held their first live concert tour in Japan. After the concert tour ended, Tegoshi took part in the musical comedy DREAM BOYS 2009 alongside fellow Johnny & Associates members Kazuya Kamenashi and Subaru Shibutani at the Imperial Garden Theater in Marunouchi, Tokyo. This was his first time being featured as a major character in this annual stage show. Not only did Tegoshi appear in the stage play, he also acted in a special drama for FujiTV titled Dareka ga Uso wo Tsuiteiru. He played, Sato Takahiro, a host and the son of a salaryman accused of groping a high school girl on a train. Tegoshi also participated on the new variety show called SHOUKON. SHOUKON is Japan’s’ first running variety show in history and features Tegoshi with fellow NEWS members, Keiichiro Koyama, Shigeaki Kato and Takahisa Masuda. The show is part of LAWSON’s green project campaign, where LAWSON will plant trees around Japan depending on the number of points the members are awarded as they complete different running missions. At the end of 2009, it was announced that Tegoshi will take on the role of Toyama Yukinojo in the live-action drama adaption Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge based on the manga of the same name. The drama is set to air on January 15, 2010.
He is currently active with both NEWS and Tegomass.

4Minute

4Minute was announced in May 2009, along with two of the group’s members, Kim Hyunah and Nam Jihyun. Although Jihyun is known as the leader, many singing parts and centered dancing roles belong to Hyuna (who is a former member of Wonder Girls) On Jun 11th 2009, the silhouette teaser video was released online, along with their official website.
Jihyuna
The remaining three members’ identities were kept secret until Jun 12th. On Jun 15th 2009, their debut single “Hot Issue” was released along with another teaser video and the profiles for each group member. Within hours of the song release, it quickly climbed onto top five within various digital music charts such as Cyworld, Bugs, Soribada, and Mnet. 4minute had their debut performances on Jun 18-21th with “Hot Issue” on Mnet’s “M!Countdown”, “Korean Broadcasting System’s Music Bank”, “MBC’s Music Core” and SBS Popular Music show. They won the digital music award “Rookie Of The Month” for June and August. 4minute won their first ever number one award on Inkigayo, on Sep 27th and on M!Countdown, on Oct 1st.

Controversy
On Jun 21th 2009, after the first week of “Hot Issue” promotions, fans stole various items from the group’s van, including clothing and other items. Cube Entertainment said it was very unfortunate that such an ordeal occurred.
On Aug 27th 2009, Korean broadcaster KBS banned playing of the 4minute song “Won’t Give” for what they considered to be overly sexual lyrical content. The lyrics in question, in the style of a first-person narrative, express an unwillingness on the part of the subject to “give” herself or her heart to her partner. Cube Entertainment responded to the ban by stating that the song was intended to be “about the pure feelings of a girl to a guy” and that they were “very disappointed” by the decision.

After School 1st Single Album – New Schoolgirl
Produced by : Brave Entertainment
Distributed by : LOEN Entertainment, Inc.
Release Date : 2009.01.15
Tracklists :
01 – Playgirlz
02 – Ah
03 – Bad Guy
04 – Ah (Inst.)
Reviews :
01 – Playgirlz
This is definitely one of the most upbeat songs that served as a great introduction track for the After School ladies. I really liked how they ‘rapped’ about themselves as ‘five people who know how to play’ and ‘remember us, we’re a new logo’. The choreography was something unique, especially a certain routine between two members which aroused curiosity when it was first showcased in last year’s SBS Gayo. A pity that the song is not the usual 3 minutes long.
02 – Ah
The only full song that is found in this single. This dance track seems to be different from the usual melody that the Brave Brothers would usually produce. Together with their powerful choreography, this creates the unique ‘AS style’ that one has never seen before. After all, we have never seen any group that is able to pull off the sexy vibe just by wearing their ‘in school’ training outfits. This song definitely brings out the charismatic charms of After School, which makes you wanna go “Ah” in admiration like how they would do it in their MV.
03 – Bad Guy
This is a bad-a** track about girls turning nasty towards the guy they had once loved. In fact, it seems like they’re in this resentful mode right from the beginning of the song till the end. Personally, I feel that it’s quite an appropriate song to listen to, especially when you’re mad at someone. After all, we shouldn’t resort to physical means. Instead, we should shift our bitterness and start singing “I’m gonna break your neck so run.” Definitely, I would have hoped that this song wasn’t banned as I was looking forward to see if they would incorporate their anger into their dance routine.

After School 1st Digital Single – Diva
Release Date : 2009.04.09
Tracklists :
01 – Diva
02 – Diva
Review :
The Brave Brothers are at it again, this time creating another catchy dance song entitled Diva. Now, the ladies are back, singing a song about professing their love, and claiming that they’re the only ‘Divas’ in the eyes of their man. The melody of the song is sure to be stuck in your minds in the first play, especially the chorus (where it goes “ohneul bam nehil bam…”). Of course, the rhythm changes during Gahee and Becca’s raps, and not forgetting Jungah’s (ballad-styled) bridge. All in all, this song is definitely one of those that you’ll never get tired of, and you might even find yourself screaming, “Diva diva d-d-d-diva” along with them as how Beka would do during their performances.

After School 2nd Single Album – Because of You

02. When I Fall

Review :
With the admission of the two new secretive members Raina and Nana, After School is set to change the standards of girl groups. The group revealed their concept of the nation’s first admissions and graduation style that freely rotates and changes their members, attracting great interest through the admission of Uee last April.
Raina and Nana were revealed through their teaser site as individuals that had trained long and hard with “a strong base” that also hold the mysterious image of charm and humor. With the unveiling of the new 7 membered image, many have been showing explosive interest and attraction.
The title song of the new album is “Because of You” It’s said to be a shibuya-kei style song with an electropop feel. After School will be revealing their intensive performance that is said to never been seen before amongst the nation’s girl groups. It begins with the sad melody of a piano and violin that folds into an addictive chrous. A rap that utilizes the members’ individuality finishes the song off in style.
“When I Fall” is a song that member Gahee actually participated in producing. It has a clear melody that fits perfectly into the title of slow R&B. The song is about a girl that begins love by herself and perfectly showcases the charm of After School’s newest member, Raina.

Choshinsung

my 3rd favorite Korean boyband
css

Cho Shin Sung, is a South Korean boy band formed under Mnet Media. Its six members specialized in the areas of singing, dance, acting, rap and pop. Since debut, the group gained popularity in South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and other East Asian countries.
Choshinsung fans use various versions of the group’s name in different countries. In South Korea, the group is known as Choshinsung, while in Japan they are known as Chōshinsei, in Chinese known as Chao xin xing, and in English Supernova. Their name translates as “Supernova”. The name “Supernova”, meaning an explosion of a star emitting luminosity far greater than that of the sun, was chosen from a list of numerous fan contributions. All the members are above 180 cm in height.

2007: Debut
Like their name suggests, these six boys are gearing up to explode onto different entertainment venues, showing off their talents as singers, dancers, and actors. Their confidence stems from a two and a half years of extensive vocal, dancing, and acting training. In order to distinguish themselves from other boy bands, Supernova sports a formal look over casual attire – accentuating their masculine appeal. They are known for starring in music videos such as Seeya’s; FT Island’s. They have also performed at the Big4 Concert back in December 2006. They were featured on Mnet’s M!Pick Season 6.
They were nominated for the Best Male Newface Group; Artist of the Year at MKMF 2007.

2008
On the 24th July 2008, the group visited Thailand for their first time, participating in showcases and other events.

2009
On September 14, Choshinsung collaborated with T-ara to release a digital single, “T.T.L. (Time To Love)”, a hiphop song with electronic sounds. Among the members, only GeonIl, GwangSu and JiHyuk, together with T-ara’s SoYeon, HyoMin, EunJung and JiYeon were involved in this project. During the month of September, the seven of them actively promoted the song on the various music shows. A remix version of the song, “T.T.L. Listen 2″, was released on October 9, with the MV featuring all the members from both groups. Even though the rest of the members (from both groups) did not have active parts in the remix version, all 12 participated in the song promotions from October onwards.

TTL Listen 2

Choshinsung made their Japanese debut in September with three singles released over three consecutive weeks: “Kimidake wo Zutto”, “Hikari”, and “Superstar ~Reborn~”. The first two singles are new releases, while “Superstar ~Reborn~” is a Japanese remix of their Korean single “Superstar”. They released their first Japanese album, titled Hana, on October 21.

2010
Choshinsung is set to release their fourth Japanese single, “Last Kiss”, on January 2010. The single’s b-side “Ai Uta” is a cover of Japanese Hip-Hop group, GReeeN’s song of the same name. And they wanting to release Japanese album “Six Stars” in March 2010. And they want to release Time To Love Listen 3 mean that’s a Japanese version.

2005–2006: The Super Junior project
Super Junior 05 debuted on SBS’s music program Popular Songs on Nov 6th 2005, performing their first single, “TWINS (Knock Out).” A digital single with “TWINS (Knock Out)”, “You are the one”, and three additional tracks were released online on Nov 8th. A physical CD single was scheduled to be released the following week but a more complete album, SuperJunior05 (TWINS), was released on December 6th 2005 instead. Their debut album sold 28,536 copies in the first month of release and debuted at #3 in the monthly chart of Dec 2005. In that same month, they released “Show Me Your Love,” a collaboration single with TVXQ. “Show Me Your Love” became the best-selling record of Dec 2005, selling 49,945 copies that month.
In Feb 2006, Super Junior 05 began performances for “Miracle”, the second promotional single from their debut album. “Miracle” was the group’s first single to peak #1 in online music charts of South Korea as well as the music charts of Thailand, drawing interest from international markets. As promotions for “Miracle” came to an end, SM Entertainment began selecting new members for Super Junior’s second line-up project, Super Junior 06. The company even prepared a list of chosen members that were to graduate from the group. However, no members were taken out and a thirteenth member was added instead in May 2006. The line-up project has been abandoned since then, and the group became known as just Super Junior, without the suffix “05″.

2006–2007: Breakthrough success
On May 23rd 2006, SM Entertainment revealed the thirteenth member Kyuhyun, who was discovered through a singing competition in 2005. They released their single “U” online for free download on May 25th 2006 in their official website. “U” had over 400 thousand downloads within five hours of release and it ultimately exceeded 1.7 million downloads, crashing the server. The physical single of “U” with a total of three tracks was released on June 6th 2006, eventually selling over 81,000 units. The single became one of Korea’s most popular songs of the year, yielding #1 spots for five consecutive weeks on two of Korea’s top music programs. By the end of the year, Super Junior collected over seven awards in five of South Korea’s top music award ceremonies, winning the title as Best New Group of 2006.
Super Junior’s first sub-unit, the ballad-singing trio Super Junior-K.R.Y., debuted on Nov 5th 2006 with a performance of Hyena theme song “The One I Love” on KBS music program Music Bank. A second sub-unit arrived in February 2007 called Super Junior-T. The trot-singing group released their first single “Rokkugo” in Feb 23rd 2007 and made a debut performance on Popular Songs two days later.
Super Junior’s second official album was intended for a late 2006 release, but due to several accidental setbacks, Don’t Don was not released until Sep 20th 2007. Within the first three days of release, offline album sales for Don’t Don passed the 11,000 unit mark, debuting as #1 in all available offline charts. It finished the September monthly album sales as #1. 60,000 units were shipped by the first week of release and additional copies were printed. Although Don’t Don received rather bland reviews from critics, the album sold more than 160,000 copies by the end of the year, becoming the second best-selling record of 2007. The album also found success in Taiwan; it broke the record for being the highest ranked Korean album on the G-music Combo Billboard Chart, surpassing the albums of TVXQ and Shinhwa. Super Junior’s album also ranked above Taiwanese boy band K One, whose album debuted at #6.
Supported by the release of Don’t Don, Super Junior was nominated in seven separate categories at the 2007 M.Net/KM Music Festival that was held on Nov 17th 2007. Super Junior won three of those categories including “Netizen Choice Award” and “Mobile Popularity”, being the biggest winner of the night. The group also won “Best Artist of the Year” (Daesang), termed by many as the highest recognition of the ceremony. Super Junior collected two more awards on Dec 14th 2007 at the 2007 Golden Disk Awards. Although defeated by SG Wannabe in winning the “Daesang”, Super Junior won a “Bonsang” and the “TPL Anycall Popularity Award”, which were reported as expected wins for the group by the media after the success of Don’t Don.

2008–2009: Beyond Korea
On Oct 2nd 2007, SM Entertainment announced a third Super Junior sub-unit Super Junior-M, a subgroup designated for the Chinese market. While the creation of the subgroup created a brief controversy between the fans and the management, Super Junior-M became a phenomenal success in China, having the opportunity to have two sold-out concerts in Hong Kong, top weekly ratings with their appearance on variety programs, and becoming the idol group with the most endorsement contracts in China. With the absence of almost half of the members in Korea, a fourth Super Junior sub-unit was created that same year to prevent Super Junior from disappearing in the Korean music industry. With five members from Super Junior-T and Yesung, they formed the subgroup, Super Junior-Happy. Super Junior-Happy released the EP Cooking? Cooking! on June 5th 2008, and promotions ended on Sep 7th, lasting for four months. In Nov 2008, Super Junior-T returned, this time as a singing group in Japan, called SuperJunior-TxMoeyan; this group added Moeyan, a famous two-woman comedy group in Japan. “ROCK&GO”, a Japanese-language version of “Rokuko”, debuted at #19 on the Oricon Daily Charts and jumped to #2 three days later.
Super Junior’s first major tour, Super Show, commenced on Feb 22nd 2008 in Seoul. The tour covered three countries and had shows on six different cities, including Bangkok, Shanghai, and Beijing. From July 8th to July 9th 2008, Super Junior held their first fan meeting in Japan, at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, as a celebration for the grand opening of their official Japanese Homepage, which was launched on April 1th 2008. 12,000 tickets to the fanmeeting were all sold out in several days. The group released a compiled Japan single the following day, entitled “U/TWINS”, which includes the Japanese version of “U” in the limited release, to complement the event. The single peaked at #4 on Japan’s Oricon Daily Chart in its first day of release, and dropped down to only four places in its second. The single broke a new record for being the first Korean single to have made within top 10 on Japan’s Oricon Weekly Chart. On Aug 2nf 2008, Super Junior expanded their routes to Genting Highlands, Malaysia, being one of the top guest performers at the MTV Asia Awards 2008 along with other international performing artists such as OneRepublic and the Jabbawockeez. They are the third SM artist to win Favorite Artist Korea at the MTV Asia Awards after Kangta and BoA, and the second musical group to win the award after JTL in 2008.
Super Junior’s third album, Sorry, Sorry, was released on March 12th 2009 with acclaimed reviews. The title single of the album, “Sorry, Sorry” was digitally released on Mar 9th 2009. In less than a week after preorders were announced, over 150,000 copies were pre-ordered. Sorry, Sorry was their first album to debut at #1 on the Hanteo Charts, and it sold over 29,000 copies the first day, defeating Seo Taiji’s record of 25,000. Promotions for the album started March 13 with the performance of “Sorry, Sorry” and “Why I Like You” on Music Bank. Two weeks later, “Sorry, Sorry” became the number one song of the week on the same program. During the group’s performance on music program Popular Songs on March 15, ratings went up to as high as 14%, the highest in recent years. From March to May, “Sorry, Sorry” collected a total of ten #1 awards with consecutive wins in Korea, having the single becoming a national and international success. After only a month of release, the album became South Korea’s best-selling album of 2009. Sorry, Sorry was also a critically and commercially successful hit in other Asian countries, opting the group to become the only overseas representative for the second time at Taiwan’s annual Golden Melody Awards. Sorry, Sorry was a best-selling Korean-language album in Taiwan, Thailand, China, and the Philippines, in which the latter listed the album to be the first K-pop album to reach #1 in music charts from the country. Super Junior won three awards in the 1st MNET Asian Music Awards – Overseas Viewers Award, Mobile Popularity Award and CGV Popularity Award despite not attending. Super Junior’s Sorry, Sorry won Daesang at the 2009 Golden Disk Awards.
On Dec 10th 2009, a music video called Sorry, Sorry – Answer was released through SM Entertainment’s YouTube page.
Also, they released a single, titled “S.E.O.U.L.” with the group’s own Kyuhyun, Donghae, Siwon, Leeteuk, Ryeowook, Sungmin, as well as some of SNSD members; Seohyun, Sunny, Sooyoung, Taeyeon and Jessica.

2010
Continuing Super Show 2 Tour and Fourth Studio Album
Super Junior’s Asian Tour: Super Show 2 is planned to come to four more cities; Beijing, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, and Manila. In Jan 2010, members Leeteuk, Shindong, Siwon, Eunhyuk and Donghae traveled to Thailand to make an appearance on KPN Awards and also confirmed that Super Junior would be releasing a fourth album very soon.
They held a concert in Beijing in Jan 23. But only 10 members attended; Han Geng, Kangin and Kibum were all absent in the event. Hankyung was absent due to his ongoing lawsuit with SM Entertainment. His lawyer had advised him not to attend any activities prepared by SM in the mean time. Kangin was absent due to his DUI accident. Kibum was absent because he was busy with his solo projects. It was also noted that Heechul cried sometime in this concert. Fans were calling for Hankyung, Kangin, and Kibum, hoping they’d be there.
When Ryeowook was a guest on Kiss The Radio, he mentioned that they are currently recording their 4th album.

April 19 car accident
On Apr 19th 2007, Kyuhyun, who was sitting behind the driver’s seat when the accident occurred, was severely injured with a fractured hip, pneumothorax from broken ribs, and deep scratches and bruises. Kyuhyun was slipping in and out of consciousness for the next few days after the accident occurred. Besides Kyuhyun, Leeteuk, Eunhyuk, Shindong, and two of their managers were also in the accident. The accident occurred when they were commuting back to their apartment after Kiss the Radio (SuKiRa) in Kangta’s van and not their own. Leeteuk had severe scratches on his back and face, and had to receive stitches. He was released later on July 5yh 2007, but didn’t fully recover until Feb 2008. The other two, Eunhyuk and Shindong, suffered only minor injuries.

Heechul’s car accident
On Aug 10th 2006, Heechul suffered a major injury from a car accident that occurred when he was heading back from Mopko to Seoul, where he was attending the funeral of Donghae’s father. It occurred when the tires malfunctioned while he was attempting to switch lanes. He fractured his left leg in five places including his femur, knee, and ankle which required a 6-hour surgery and he also sustained several other injuries. He was advised to stop all activities for a period of twelve weeks. He was released from the hospital on Sep 13th 2006 and returned to the hospital for surgery to remove some of the iron rods in his leg on Oct 10th 2006. He returned to work in late October to film the final three episodes of the MBC youth sitcom Rainbow Romance while still in a cast and wheel chair. It wasn’t until late December when Heechul officially returned to individual activities such as variety show appearances and hosting appearances. He made his comeback on Nov 25th at the MKMF Awards. The remaining rods were removed in 2008.

Musical style
As a whole, Super Junior has released three studio albums and one physical single, including occasional contributions to drama soundtracks. They are acclaimed for their vocal harmonization and unison as each member contributes a different voice range in their music. Leeteuk, Heechul, Hankyung, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, and Ryeowook are all tenors. Yesung, Kangin, and Siwon are baritones. Shindong, Kibum, and Kyuhyun sing in bass. Some members are credited for their vocal belting techniques, notably Yesung.Despite significant vocal contributions by each member, Yesung, Sungmin, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun are labeled as the group’s lead vocalists. Shindong, Eunhyuk, and Kibum are the group’s main rappers, with Heechul and Donghae consistently rapping as the supporting vocals. Eunhyuk also regularly contributes in writing the group’s rap music.
Super Junior’s music mainly fall into the category of mainstream Korean pop. Songs of this genre are usually mixed with different branches of electronic instruments, with heavy emphasis on urban contemporary, dance pop, and rap. Generic pop melodies were used more in SuperJunior05 (TWINS), while R&B and sulty electronica beats were used more in Sorry, Sorry.
Super Junior works closely with Young Jin Yoo, who has produced and arranged most of the group’s promotional singles since debut. Yoo’s also known for creating the renowned SMP style, a genre that includes a balanced infusion of rock, R&B, and rap, with complementing musical elements such as the electric guitar, bass, and other different percussion instruments. Super Junior has prominently used this SMP style in Don’t Don.
Super Junior has covered quite a few song in their albums. Their debut single “TWINS (Knock Out)” is a cover of Triple Eight’s “Knockout,” which was released in 2003. While the musical style is mostly maintained as the original, “TWINS (Knock Out)” touches closer to rap rock, with quicker rap and more emphasis on the bass instruments. In most of their covers, the original titles are kept. Examples include Cape’s “L.O.V.E” and Exile’s “Believe.” However, most of these covers are re-arranged to different accompaniments, such as H.O.T’s “Full of Happiness”.

Dance style
Super Junior are known for doing performances that are heavily centered around their choreography, and are acclaimed for their highly sychronized dances. The group’s pre-debut was a hip hop dance performance and they have also joined B-boy battles and performances throughout their career.
Their dance styles are widely termed as street dancing, with a majority of their choreography containing hip hop dance moves such as popping, waving, sliding, and liquid dancing. Most of their songs usually contain a music bridge where one to six members from the group do a dance performance. Han Geng, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, and Donghae are reportedly the most skilled dancers of the group, where the five of them are usually seen leading group dances and also performing solos. Dances in the form of martial arts are widely used in their dance routines as both Han Geng and Sungmin are professionally trained in that area. Some of the members also participate in creating their dance choreography, such as Shindong who was the main choreographer for “U” and for most of the group’s other dance sequences. The members worked together to create the dance choreography for “Don’t Don” and “Marry U”, both promotional singles for the group’s second album.

Image
Super Junior are best known to be a youthful, energetic, and humorous group.Because of that, they often become guest artist on shows as mood maker. The group has also remarked that having good teamwork is one of the key reasons to their success. The bonding and friendship between members have been apparent since before the group’s debut, when SM arranged all of them to live in one apartment. Heechul has mentioned several times that if it wasn’t for his members, he would have left Super Junior to pursue a dedicated acting career.
Musically, Super Junior are known for having many different fabricated images with each new release. Super Junior’s debut image leaned softly towards a rock appearance to complement the rap/rock “TWINS (Knock Out).” For “Miracle,” many of the members displayed a youthful and cute image with their lighter hair color and cute dance style. The group soon transitioned to a more mature, preppy style with “U”, where the members changed their hair to a darker color and wore darker, more flamboyant outfits. For the release of Don’t Don, the group headed for an edgy transformation. Their outfits became more revealing and many members bleached their hair, wore dark makeup, and had temporary tattoos. Kangin had a hairstyle that was a buzz cut with scratched designs, Leeteuk’s and Sungmin’s hair were bleached blond and half shaved, while Heechul, Hankyung, and Kyuhyun sported with bright-colored hairstyles, which were all inspired by punk fashion and modifications of hip hop fashion. With their comeback in early 2009, the 13 guys showed the transformation from boys to men. To match the bouncy beats of Sorry, Sorry, they donned stylish and fitted suits with accessories such as: ties, bows, aviators, and leather gloves. Not only did Super Junior return with their “own fashion”, they sported hairstyles of natural colors and short-cuts to give off a fresh look. For the It’s You promotions, they leaned toward a more casual, but a clean and manly look.

Criticism
Super Junior has been criticized in the past for lip-synching and lack of vocal skills specifically for shaky pitch and heavy breathing. The criticisms worsened in July 2006 when they lipsynched on Show! Music Core of MBC, a show that guarantees all live performances. Though fans have defended them saying that Heechul was ill, their critics do not accept this explanation. They argue that since the band contains thirteen members, one singer should not necessitate lipsynching by the entire group. Despite this, they have still remained popular through their large fan base and their album sales have been strong. To lighten the criticism, Super Junior’s first performance of “Don’t Don,” the lead single off the group’s second album, was live and not lipsynched. Out of the thirty-six songs that were performed at the group’s first live concert tour, Super Show, only six songs were lipsynched, a feat that earned positive reviews. Some members have also been performing a cappella versions of their songs.
